As of this academic year, we are re-launching the old course representative scheme under a new name – StARs are students who volunteer or are elected to represent other students on their module, their course, or their department. Check out the small presentaiton below which outlines what STARS are all about!

| What are StARs all about? |
They attend student-staff liaison committees which are meetings held within departments between staff members and student representatives. StARs are there to help you get your point of view across to the people who run and deliver your courses so they are a good first point of contact if you have comments about things such as quality of teaching or facilities. Get in touch with them if you have concerns or questions about your course that you think your department should know about.
Becoming a student Rep is one of the most important and useful roles you can play during your time at University. By being a representative at UWIC, you have chosen to be an integral part of the Universities decision-making process, and you are ensuring your fellow students receive the quality education they deserve. You will be making sure that the University is running as it should be, which is both an exciting and important position to hold, and one that carries responsibility.
StARs also work closely with the School Representatives who are employed by the Students’ Union whose role is to ensure that the students’ voice is heard clearly at School level. As well as raising issues at student-staff liaison committee meetings, StARs can raise issues and offer feedback to School Reps. There is one School Representative for each School and as well as being the lead student representative of their School and providing support and communication to the StARs, they also sit on University wide meetings, so keep an eye out for profiles and contact details of your School Representative!
The University needs Student Representatives in order to assess how well students’ needs are being met. Student Representatives play a vital role in providing the University and Students’ Union with feedback. Being a Student Rep is one of the most important roles you can play during your time at UWIC and repping allows you to get involved with the University and Union and in the decision making process, which affects you and your fellow students.
