Pink and Purple day a huge success!

Wednesday, December 3rd saw the first ‘Pink & Purple’ day being held at Cyncoed Campus. Students donned pink and purple t-shirts and hoodies in order to ‘campaign in colour’ to raise awareness of organ donation. The campaign day was held at Cyncoed Campus, with the aim of raising the awareness of organ donation as well as providing plenty of opportunities for people to sign-up to the register. Around 25 students from the Welsh Society and Ladies Lacrosse team volunteered to get involved with the campaign, and set-up ‘sign up stations’ around campus. Various other activities took place throughout the day, including face and body painting, giant Jenga and connect 4 as well as a singing gorilla!

A massive 135 sign-ups were recorded on the day, with many more students taking leaflets away with them for their friends and family. Most importantly, the day helped to get students’ talking about organ donation- which is one of the main aims of the ‘tell a loved one’ campaign.

Leni Hatcher, Donate Wales Campaigns and Communications Officer, said: “Working with UWIC Students Union on the Donate Wales campaign has been a real eye opener to both the student’s dedication to campaigning as well as the issue of Organ Donation.
The overall success of the day demonstrated the positive attitude of UWIC students, and their commitment to campaign for issues that are important to them. This was particularly evident through the work of the Lacrosse team and Welsh society students, who threw themselves into the challenge. The Students’ Union and Donate Wales hopes to hold similar events on the other UWIC campuses in 2009.
