Welcome Back!
Hope you all had a great Christmas and New Year and are all settled back in UWIC life.
There is not much going on but week beginning Monday 7th Feb, we will be promoting amongst staff and students all the services that the SU offers, with ‘SU awareness’ Week. This will be a great week with loads going on and this is the perfect opportunity to get involved with UWIC SU and what it has to offer.
Also all Stars remember to make sure to find out if there any arising issues and feel free to contact me anytime
Georgina
All of us in the School of Sport have really got stuck into things this term, congratulations to all sporting team members who have competed for UWIC so far, and for next term remember that intramural sport is still a fantastic opportunity for you to take up.
In regards to the activity fund referendum, this is still ongoing and meetings are still taking place with the Students Union. When a conclusion appears you guys will be the first to know.
We also held the shortest staff/student liaison meeting in history! Only several issues appeared and these were all acknowledged and are ongoing. Remember any issues take it too your stars, as meetings like this are the perfect opportunity to bring them up.
Have a good Christmas guys and See you in January
Georgina
Well done to all the Stars who attended the training day on the 23rd. It was a brilliant day packed full of great information on how to be a good Star, and some brilliant input from all who came. It was also followed by an afternoon of team building activities where everyone got involved and had fun even if a bit cold and wet. If you check out retro there’s some good pics
Also this month we held the activity fund referendum where the students were able to vote on whether we want to bring this in. Brilliantly we got over 1000 votes and had 75% of you guys saying yes. This will have a huge impact for next years fresher’s and it means the extra money they pay will immensely improve their student experience, and make being a UWIC student even better.
So hope everyone’s enjoying things, and remember any questions or queries don’t hesitate to contact me at any time!

Hope everyone is settling well into UWIC life, and you had a fantastic fresher’s fortnight. We had a brilliant response from the fresher’s fayre, with many of you joining up to all sorts of different societies and making the most of what UWIC have to offer. So don’t forget to make the most of these opportunities as they help to provide the best university experience possible.
I would also like to congratulate all students who have so far signed up to be a StAR. This is a great opportunity for students to be a representative for their course and help to make a difference for the UWIC student body. If you are still interested in becoming a StAR feel free to download an application form from the website.
StARs, there will be a training day on Saturday the 23rd of October; this will be a fun filled day and will give you the chance to get to know fellow StARs, School Representatives and Students’ Union staff. More details will follow shortly.
Up until the 22nd of October, UWIC SU are holding a referendum to introduce a new mandate for the next intake of 2011/12 fresher’s, called the Activity Fund. This is an initiative, which looks to brighten the student’s future and experience at UWIC. However this can only be introduced with votes from YOU the students. So for the next two weeks, members from the Students’ Union and I will be around campus with a ballot box, so feel free to come and make your vote count.
Finally, if you want any more information you can look around the website which has many more details, and remember guys any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to come and find me or drop me an email.
Good Luck with your first term of lectures!
