Mono Taxi – How You Gonna Feel About This ?

‘How You Gonna Feel About This ?’ is very light indie pop from this Anglo-French collaboration. Lilting guitar riffs and pleasant vocals make for very easy listening, which is perfect for a relaxed evening in with a nice bottle of Burgundy and a group of your closest friends. The problem with this is that it’s not very exciting. ‘How You Gonna Feel…’ didn’t have me excited enough to tell all of my friends about it, let alone invite them around (in April) for expensive wine…
Unfortunately, this is true of their current album: almost all of the tracks sound very similar to this – almost as if the band has decided upon a style and simply made an album of tracks that all blend one into the other. This, while admirable, is arty rather than listenable.
Mono Taxi are capable of so much more. Download and listen to ‘Hardy Smile’, which redeems the band completely in my mind. It is closer to the sort of track that wouldn’t be out of place at any of the UK’s O2 Academies on Friday nights (Ramshackle, for the win), and the radio edit of which had me bouncing around the living room as if I were Alan Carr in the NIAC changing rooms.
