Volunteering
The Membership Services department at UWIC SU is keen to develop and promote student volunteering in the community. We want to enhance the experience and employability of UWIC Students by helping you to find the perfect activity to develop your studies; learn new skills; meet new people and most of all, have fun.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
HYBU Needs Volunteers!
Who are we?
At the moment we run two programmes.
Pobl Ifanc is our very first programme. It is for 16- 18 year olds who want to make a difference in the lives of others. They are trained in basic volunteering skills, in how the community works and in how to manage and organise events. They also take part in a variety of events to raise money for BBC Children In Need from simple street collections to larger scale whole day or week events.
Learn to Lead is a fairly new programme for 18- 25 year olds who are keen to help others make a real difference in the lives of people around them. The Learn-2-Lead programme has been devised to give training and practical experience to young adults while helping us to meet the demand being created by our Hybu Pobl Ifanc programme. The programme gives the opportunity to gain experience and evidence in areas such as Leadership, Teamwork, Communication Skills, Commitment and Organisational Skills, all of which are required when applying for Internships and employment.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for individuals who dream of helping others in making a difference in the lives of others around them.
• Volunteers to join our Learn to Lead programme.
What does this involve?
1. Learning to train the members of the Pobl Ifanc Programme in their module training and attending weekly Pobl Ifanc meetings.
I’m interested... how do I find out more?
Any questions small or big can come to pobl.ifanc@hybu.co.uk or 0845 890 1592.

The office is at the top floor of the building and there is no lift. Adviceline Cymru needs student volunteers!
We have a new volunteer role called “Adviceline Assessor” which we think will be of particular interest to law students. The Adviceline Assessor answers calls from the public, identifies the key issues and makes quick decisions on how the caller can get the best possible help for their problem.
To undertake this role we need people with the following:
Training for Adviceline takes between 6 to 8 weeks, and is a mixture of in-bureaux training, external training and online e-learning.

Hybu is an organisation which trains young people in volunteering skills. We work alongside BBC Children In Need and all our fundraising goes to Pudsey Bear. Hybu has an atmosphere of fun and acceptance.
2. Learning to mentor the members of Pobl Ifanc Programme
3. Learning how to organise activities and events – some of them large scale events for 1000’s of people and helping to make them work.
4. Learning to work with other groups and organisations to help them organise activities and events.
Commitment will vary on the individual and on the area in which you are working.

Nightline is a confidential listening and information service run by students, for students. Cardiff Nightline serves Cardiff University, UWIC, RWCMD, and Glamorgan University. We can't give advice on what to do but instead try to help people to solve problems themselves by letting them talk to someone who will listen. We also supply any information that may be useful, ranging from which takeaways are still open to how to access other services such as counselling, NHS services or helplines.
As a volunteer you can help out when its suits you, we just ask that you do a minimum of one duty a month. A duty is from 8pm to 8am but there are beds in the house so you don't have to stay up all night and you will always be on with at least one experienced volunteer.
If you are interested, please e-mail cardiffnightline@hotmail.co.uk and we will send you a role description explaining what a Nightline volunteer actually does, and a person specification, so you can see if it is the right opportunity for you, along with an application form.

The Citizens Advice service provides unique, office-based, volunteering opportunities which allows students to gain real, tangible work experience and gives them an insight and connection with their adopted community.
Hundreds of students volunteer with Citizens Advice Bureau every year all over Wales and England.
We are desperate for volunteers to help with our new Adviceline telephone service and we’ve found that law students are a good source of enthusiastic volunteers! We can offer great training, lots of support and a chance to work directly with clients.
For three hours a week your students will get to give something back to their local community and get to put something really worthwhile on their CV. They can also use the skills they have learnt at their local home based CAB in the holiday time!
If you think you would be interested in this fantastic new opportunity for direct work with clients, and would like to know more or would like to arrange for a meeting to discuss, please contact Ria Batten:
