UWIC Women make Big Splash in Bath
The UWIC women’s squash moved a step closer to glory last night in the BUCS competition with a victory over Bath University squash. The match was hard fought and finely balanced. UWIC women travelled to Bath without the club number one because of a late rearrangement of the fixture and played a Bath side at full strength. The individual matches were characterised by grit and determination. Ruth Williams, playing a far more experienced opponent, was unfortunate not to win a game after some great serving and strong rallying. Emma Lane played a hard, aggressive game to defeat her opposite number 3-0. Natalie Pritchard fought off a determined opponent (coming back from 9-3 down in one game) to win 3-0. The stage was set for Angharad Llewellyn’s epic battle with the Bath number 3 player. Showing amazing commitment and mental toughness Angharad came back from 2 games down and 10-6 match ball against her in the 3rd game to win the match 3-2 and secure the fixture for UWIC.
UWIC Women look forward to their next fixture against either Exeter University or Birmingham. Another display of physical and mental commitment like this one, will surely push either of these teams to their limit…..
