UWIC AC are are doing a fund raising event to raise the £500 needed to attend a competition at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham on the 14th February 2010. Here we will compete as one of the top 5 Universities in the country in a 5-way athletics match against Loughborough, Bath, Brunel and Birmingham.

Put simply, we are going to try and break the World Record for the Marathon (2 hours and 3 minutes) on our indoor 200m track at UWIC... That is 42,195m or 211 laps of our indoor track! And we are going to do it in fancy dress (Santa's)! The whole club will be involved and we will do it as a relay team - each person will have to do a certain number of laps and then pass on the relay baton (a Chrstmas Cracker) to the next. The relay baton has to travel the 211 laps in less than 2 hours and 3 minutes for us to be successful - that is approximately 34 seconds per lap! Or to put it another way each mile in 4 minutes and 40 seconds!!! Pretty tough when you are dressed as Santa! But, we are confident we can have a good shot at it...
