Competing at UWIC

UWIC Women’s Rugby Football Club runs one team that competes in BUCS Premier South Competition, South Wales Premiership and Welsh Cup competition. UWIC Women’s rugby have won the BUCS championship for the past five years, making them the most dominant team in women’s university rugby history.  Many UWIC players go on to represent their regions [England and Wales] and country [U20 and Senior] whilst studying, and these players are supported fully to perform at the highest level.

Training at UWIC

Team Training - takes place Monday (5-7pm) and Friday evenings (6-8pm).  Players meet on NIAC balcony prior to training, which takes place on the infield.

Skills Training – takes place on a Wednesday afternoon [2-4pm] when BUCS fixtures are not scheduled

Strength and Conditioning – takes place on a Monday AM (circuit), Tuesday AM (weights), Thursday AM (pool recovery) and Friday PM (weights).  These sessions are for (a) players selected for the focus group or (b) the whole squad.

All Team/Skills sessions are organized and supervised by Head Coach Kylie Wilson.  All Strength and Conditioning sessions are organized and supervised by UWIC Conditioning coaches Dai Watts and/or Rachel Cork.

Information on the 2011-2012 trials will be posted in early September.

Socialising at UWIC

The Women’s Rugby section has an active social program that fits around the playing and training.  Regular events on the social calendar are pub golf, Christmas dinner, gangsters and many other themed nights out.

Membership Benefits

Your membership fees contribute to the running of the club.  This means all transport, playing fees, after-match meals and officials fees are paid for through your membership. In addition you get access to discounted physiotherapy.   All players will also have the opportunity to review their performances through the support of our notational analyst.  Those players selected for the focus group also get membership to all fitness facilities at UWIC in addition to the specialist Strength and Conditioning coaching and facilities.
