BUCS

BUCS - British University & Colleges Sport

In 2008 the new single governing body for University Sport, the British Universites and Colleges Sport (BUCS) was formed, and they are responsible for the governance of competitive inter-university sport in Great Britain

UWIC has had a long and successful history of achievement in University sport. This has taken form, not only in the Annual Inter University Domestic Competitions, but also on the Home International and World Stages.

UWIC Students have not only represented their Home Nation, but many have gone on to represent Great Britain Universities on the international stage and at many World University Games. A number have represented their Home Country in those arenas as well.

In order to maintain UWIC’s ethos of giving all students a chance in their selected sport/activity, we offer the opportunity for UWIC students to represent their University in any of the events that BUCS offers. However, the standards in most events, particularly the individual events, is very high, so any student wishing to enter must prove that they are of a level to enter. All entry, travel and accommodation costs are usually covered/subsidised by the Athletic Union. For more information on the sports offered by BUCS, please contact Katie Austin on kaustin@uwic.ac.uk or 029 2041 7073.

What is BUCS?

British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) is the national organisation for higher education sport in the UK. It brings together expertise and experience from two former representative bodies – British Universities Sports Association (BUSA) and University College Sport (UCS) – to provide a unified voice for sport, fitness and physical activity on university campuses.

BUCS works with student athletes, athletic union staff and elected officers as well as professional sporting staff, coaches and volunteers at 153 member institutions. It offers a comprehensive, multi-sport competition structure and manages the development of services and facilities for participative, grass-roots sport and healthy campuses through to high-performance, elite athletes.
