About the UWIC Athletic Union
The Sports clubs, supported by UWIC Students’ Union are co-ordinated through the Athletic Union and administered by a full time administrator, Katie Austin. This includes all British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) and National League sport.
UWIC recruits a great deal of sporting talent every year and the Student and Athletic Unions aim to provide a quality service for our sports people. We fund the provision of coaching and provide the excellent sports facilities that you will find on the Cyncoed site. Here we have an outdoor athletics track, international tennis centre, astro-turf multi-purpose pitch and state-of-the-art gymnasia. At the Llandaff site a gymnasium is situated in the amenities block. Several of our sports benefit from being Focus Sports and we have a successful scholarship programme which allows successful athletes to receive additional financial support. We fund all students attending BUCS events, including weekly transport and necessary accommodation and subsidise all our Clubs' National League events. On top of this, we organise an annual Sports Awards event where we recognise the achievements of all of our clubs and athletes throughout the year.
Everything you ever wanted to know about our sports clubs can be found from Katie, our full time administrator, in the UWICSU offices in Campus Centre, Cyncoed. Membership of a club is open to all students at UWIC, irrespective of the Course or Campus they are studying at. We do not concentrate solely on providing sport for those at Cyncoed or on Sports Courses, but all students are invited, and welcome, to join the Athletic Union Clubs. The money generated through the AU Memberships is reinvested back into the Athletic Union and is used to fund all BUCS events, the Scholarship and Focus Sports Programmes and is used to subsidise the Club Budgets. Please not that the AU membership includes all insurances and therefore should be purchased before club activities begin and before club membership is purchased.
